Spanish Social Security Warns You Not To Open This Email

Social Security is warning citizens that there is a massive case of email fraud . Cybercriminals pretend to be the Ministry notifying the recipient that they have pending payments. For this reason, the Administration has launched a message saying “do not download any application, do not click on the links or attachments, you could be a victim of pishing fraud “.

The text of the email reads: “SeguridadSocial – Informs you that there are obligations resulting from a tax settlement that is unpaid .” The message includes the logo of the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration and that of the Electronic Office. In addition, the body of the letter includes the message: “You can download the report generated by the SII at the following link”, which also includes a download link.

What can I do if I have already opened the mail?
Although the Administration has already warned on different occasions that you should not click on these links, or open emails from suspicious addresses , it also gives some advice if you have already fallen into fraud. In fact, the first step is to go to the National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE).

In the first instance, this entity recommends carrying out a scan of the entire computer with the antivirus and, later, following the instructions set by the program if it detects any type of virus. However, to prevent this type of fraud from occurring, INCIBE recommends following a series of guidelines:

As a general rule, the user should not open any mail sent from an unfamiliar or suspicious address. In addition, when these messages come from a known bank, it will never attach a link to access its web address . Of course, in no case should you reply to these emails.

On the other hand, even if the messages come from known addresses, even from friends , you must be very careful when opening a link, since the sender address could have been the victim of a hack.
